Ways to practice English

There are many ways to practice English either at home or your workplace. Remember that the more you practice, the better for you:

  • Think in English. I know this might sound crazy to you, but it really works. Everytime you wake up in the morning, try to think of the things you've got to do that day...if you want to pronounce the words you are thinking of, it's ok, too!

  • Watch a movie. Follow this advice. First, watch the movie in English (audio) with Spanish subtitles, finish watching all the movie. Then, (next day probably) watch the same movie again! Yes, again! But this time,  don't use any subtitles, only the audio in English. This may help to high-intermediate English students. (everybody wants to understand a movie well so that later you can practice your English!)

  • Practice in class. I know this is rather difficult, specially because sometimes you find partners who are reluctant to speak English. Well, I  cannot recommend you avoid such partners. Just try not to speak Spanish with them, in that way you will invite them to join you in the “game” of practicing. However, if this doesn’t work and your partner continues to speak Spanish, FIND another partner, right away!!!!

  • Listen to music in English. I know this is well known, however try to learn only the pronunciation from songs; sometimes grammar is incorrect, and I shouldn’t recommend studying grammar from music.

  • Always speak English with your teachers. You can practice your language with teachers, they (we) are trained to understand you, and help you in case you need. So the next time you see an ex-teacher, begin a conversation in English with them.

  • Record your voice. This is a good practice that permits you to listen to you later. Probably you won’t like your voice he he –nobody does! but it will be a good exercise to you because you can identify any mistakes in your pronunciation and correct it or maybe you could give your recording to your teacher so that he can give you a good feedback.

Record yourself using a webcam. You can easily do that by using your cell phones. Later you can share your videos with a partner/teacher to receive feedback.

    • Videochat in English. I like this idea because it permits you to practice your language and see the other person, too. You can use Messenger;however, I recommend using Google+, you should open an account there and add friends, of course-like in Facebook. The advantage? In Facebook you can video chat only with one person (to this date), in Google+, with 9 more!!

Well, these have been some advices for you to practice your language. If you have more interesting ideas feel free to comment!

    Tongue twisters to practice pronunciation

    Hi guys,
"Practice makes perfect" and it is a great idea if you keep practicing all the time. Tongue twisters can help you do that.

It is not necessary to memorize long, difficult tongue twisters. You can begin with easy ones.

I found a page where you can read the tongue twister and listen to it. It is also possible for you  to download the mp3 audio file.

    Enjoy!

PS. Memorize a tongue twister for your next class =)
